My Review
Rating: 7/10
I am interested in the Seventh Day Adventist viewpoint on redemption and church history.
An interesting read, to say the least. Personally, I would not advertize the writings of this woman have basis in tradition and theology for my denomination.
Helen White had many extra-Biblical prophetic visions to add “clarity” to what is recorded in the Bible. Unfortunately her “clarity” leaves one wondering whether she was a heritic.
An example of what I’m saying:
She was in heaven and described events prior to the creation of the Earth. Events such as Satan becoming jealous of Christ because the Father lavished attention and love on Christ vs. Satan. It does not sound as if she believes that Christ is God, that Satan is not. Satan is a created being, Christ is not. These are issues settled among the Christian community, and her vision clearly contradicts clear teaching in scripture. The book was condensed from many of her writings and although it walks through Scripture, it was riddled with Mrs. White’s visions to enhance the text of scripture. To be fair, not all her visions were heresy, but it was very apparent that her faith was based on the visions and not on scripture.
As far as the know the official stance of the Seventh Day Adventist church is that where there is contradiction between Mrs. White’s apparent teaching and scripture that her interpretation is always made to conform with scripture - as it should be. But it does leave me wondering why she is held in such high esteeem with so many clearly heritical viewpoints.
