My uncle was also killed on the USS Kete. My mother was the one that answered the door and received the Western Union telegram on April 16th 1945 regarding her brother. She has never heard that friendly fire could have been involved. Who within in the Government and when was this told to her?

It also depends upon how many records you're in. Counties gather potential jurors from tax records, voter registrations, DMV records, etc. The more records there are of you, the more likely the county will select you. That also makes it less than purely random. What the county jury commissioner should say is that everything being equal, the selection is random. However, the truth is that things aren't equal, so they cannot be purely random. The more records you appear in, the better the chance that you'll get called. The fewer records, the lesser the chance.

"Why do I always get summoned [for jury duty] but other people don’t?"

Originally, jury duty selection probably was more or less random. Jury trials, however, have always been a key revenue source for defendant's lawyers and trial backlogs the primary justification for more trial judges (higher salaries), prosecutors/plaintiff's lawyers.

As the proportion of licensed lawyers has grown (average income grows annually and has been over %120,000 since 2002), more trials are certainly in keeping with attorney job security (each trial requires a minimum of three attorney's, unless a dumb sap defendent represents himself (pro se).

Voter rolls have not produced adequate juror pools for over a decade now (possibly two).
Consequently, folks with a driver's license were added to the pool of prospective jurors long ago.

Last year, when a pool of 125 called for only one trial included me, 14 were selected (two alternates)- the other 110 were eliminated (one had never showed up, and constables had to deliver two who were late).

Lawyers spent a full 3 hours challenging and eliminating about 3 dozen people. Of the remainder, the final jury was selected by random drawing. Be glad of that much randomness.

Although the meager jury pay covered mileage and lunch, that was all it covered. Some of my training assures I will never be selected for certain kinds of trials, so I am happy to serve whenever possible. i suspect that you are as well.

My uncle was killed on the Kete. My grandmother said the government told her it was due to friendly fire...unbelievable! I didnt find this out until after she had passed away.
