2 Corinthians 8:13-15

For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality, as it is written: “The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.” Abundance is God’s way of saying, “Take care of those who do not have what they need.”

Our world has fallen far from this ideal, and the gap between the rich and the poor continues to grow.

The design is this: if God blesses you with an abundance (money, time, anything), then His hope is that you are generous in sharing what He has given you. In doing so we live and learn to truly love one another. This lifestyle is evidence of the grace of God at work in the lives of His children, and places the gospel on display for all that they might believe in the Lord Jesus.

If you have more than enough, share it. If you don’t have enough, be willing to receive help from those who do. Let God take care of judging who is worthy.

See 1 Timothy 2:1-4 – “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
