That person is full of himself“ 

That’s a phrase we use to mean that someone is big in their own eyes.  They have appointed themselves to be the object around which everything and everyone revolves.  This phrase is not said as a term of endearment, on the contrary it is a derogatory comment which many times means nothing more than “who are they to make themselves so important when I’m here?”  Who can really trust that their own motives are true when looking on another and passing judgment?

Obviously, we don’t think it’s acceptable for people to be full of themselves.  Is there an implication that we all can be full of something?  What do we expect others to be full of?
